Texas Homeshcool Coalition -
Texas Home School Coalition, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization, is the state support organization. Its mission is to serve and inform the home school community and promote home education in Texas. THSC, Inc., also strives to:
- Encourage and perpetuate the fire that ignited the original home school movement. It will do this by providing forums to inspire these heart values and will seek to constantly reinvigorate the movement against erosion of purpose.
- Encourage home schoolers with a vision for the spiritual and relationship benefits of home education to persevere in the difficult times (via magazine, leadership retreats, websites, video projects, providing online files of talks, radio commentary, etc.).
- Educate and support strong home school leadership at all levels: state, regional and local. Serve as a clearinghouse for information on home schooling, (especially in Texas).
- Aggressively promote and market home schooling in Texas to the general public through multiple public efforts. Build a network of contacts in the radio, television, and political world to further the cause of home schooling, and feed that network with regular PR on home school achievements and goals. Publicly recognize the extraordinary achievements of home school parents and students.
- Assist widows, families with special needs issues, and minority families in the home school community.
Texas Home School Coalition Association, (a 501(c)(4) organization), serves and protects Texas home school families by providing intervention and legal assistance for its members. The mission of the THSC Association:
- Protect home schooling rights in Texas and advance those rights through legislation and public relations by influencing and crafting legislation favorable to home schoolers and assisting families with legal issues pertaining to home schooling.
- Educate home school parents and students in the political process and utilize that training to further the cause of home schooling.
- Communicate with school districts in the state to correct erroneous information and help officials come to a clear understanding of the law as it pertains to home education.
- Fosters the belief that government restriction of home education cannot be justified. For this reason the THSC Association monitors the Texas legislature and other government agencies that have the power to adopt policies that would negatively impact Texas home school freedoms.
- Oppose any government regulation of home education and commit to protecting the right of Texas parents to teach their children at home.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with Texas elected officials and other pro-family organizations to promote home school freedoms, and issue regular updates via e-mail and newsletters to inform the home school community and encourage support for pro-home schooling policies and legislation.
Texas Home School Coalition Political Action Committee (THSC PAC) is a statewide political action committee and works to:
- Educate candidates and public officials about the benefits and validity of home schooling.
- Endorse pro-home schooling candidates for public office and encourage home school families to actively support such candidates with their time, money, and resources to ensure the continued freedom of Texas home schoolers.
